Overview

This Wiki is a resource of tutorial articles and videos for the Guiild's MWP TNG websites. These surname study sites are more than family trees; they are also the stories and analytical patterns of our ancestors.

Click on the Surname index link, at the upper-left area of this page, to see a full listing of the surname study sites.

Prime Features

A research of one surname can contain many aspects of the study. This wiki will point the reader to some aspects that may enhance their enjoyment of a one-name project. The MWP surname projects using the Type 3 TNG application are listed in the table, below.

We consider four areas of prime interest: the Structure, the Narrative, Analytics and Synergy.

  • Structure: is the TNG family tree web application. TNG holds the family structure: family, parents, children, ancestors, descendants, their lineage, dates and locations, as well as images and citations. See the table further down for a listing of TNG websites, by surname.
  • Narrative: is the stories of our ancestors; the events that made their history. Using the freestyle form of the wiki to record biographies, this will reveal the surname and family background, migration, wars, diseases, occupations and homesteading. See the table further down for the surname overview on this wiki.
  • Analytics: is the viewing of a surname data set using graphics, maps, filters and tables. We are looking for trends, patterns and comparisons, such as family size, longevity and migration. Currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION
  • Synergy: is the interrelationships of multiple surname studies. Using graphic tools, we are looking for our own surname in other one-name studies. Currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION

TNG = "The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding", a web application by Darrin Lythgoe.

Links to the four prime features are always visible in the upper-left area of any wiki page.

The Members' Websites Project

The Members' Website Project, or MWP, is a service of the Guild of One-Name Studies and is available to Guild members for the hosting of one-name studies. The goals are:

  • to preserve and to archive the extensive genealogy studies of surnames undertaken by Guild members,
  • to share a member's research with the world-wide interest in family histories through a website portal,
